BOOST YOUR APTITUDE WITH TRICKS !

ree
An Outstanding aptitude can be considered "talent." An aptitude may be physical or mental.

Ability is developed knowledge, understanding, learnt or acquired abilities or attitude. The innate nature of aptitude is in contrast to skills and achievement, which represent knowledge or ability that is gained through learning.

LET'S LEARN is here to enhance your aptitude skills with some tips and tricks.

Here we go with the chapter : RATIO & PROPORTIONS

Types of problem : PART -1

  • Splitting a number in the given ratio

  • Direct proportion

  • Inverse proportion

  • Finding A:C from A:B and B:C

Splitting a number in the given ratio:( Examples )

1. Divide 720 in the ratio 2: 3.

Method1:

Total parts = 2 + 3 = 5

First number = (2/5) 720 = 288

Second number = (3/5) 720 = 432

Method 2:

2x + 3x = 720; 5x = 720;

x = 144 2x = 2(144) = 288;

3x = 3(144) = 432

2. Divide 720 in the ratio 2: 3: 4.

Method 1:

Total parts = 2 + 3 + 4 = 9

First number = (2/9) 720 = 160;

Second number = (3/9) 720 = 240;

Third number = (4/9)720 = 320

Method 2:

2x + 3x +4x= 720;

9x = 720;

x = 80

2x = 2(80) = 160; 3x = 3(80) = 240; 4x = 4(80) = 320

Direct proportion:

When two parameters are in direct proportion if one parameter increases the other one will also increase and if one parameter decreases the other one will also decrease. If the parameters A and B are in direct proportion they will satisfy the below equation.

FORMULA: A1/A2 = B1/B2

EXAMPLE:

Price of diamond is directly proportional to its weight. If 2 grams of diamond costs $ 45,000 then what is the price of a diamond that weighs 6 grams?

Answer:

Weight of diamond in first case, A1 = 2

Weight of diamond in second case, A2 = 6

Price of diamond in first case, B1 = 45000

Price of diamond in second case, B2 =?

According to the equation,

2/6 = 45000/B2

B2 = 45000 x (6/2)

B2 = 135,000

Inverse Proportion:

When two parameters are in inverse proportion if one parameter increases the other one will decrease and if one parameter decreases the other one will decrease. If the parameters A and B are in inverse proportion they will satisfy the below equation.

FORMULA: A1/A2 = B2/B2

EXAMPLE:

Mileage and Engine capacity are inversely proportional. A bike with 100cc engine capacity gives a mileage of 80 km. What will be the mileage given by a bike with 150cc engine capacity?

Answer:

Engine capacity of first bike, A1 = 100

Engine capacity of second bike, A2 = 150

Mileage of first bike, B1 = 80

Mileage of second bike, B2 =?

According to the equation,

100/150 = B2/80

B2 = 100(80)/150

B2 = 53.33 km

Finding A: C from A: B and B: C

FORMULA:

ree

EXAMPLE:

The ratio between salary of A and B is 4: 5. The ratio between salary of B and C is 3: 4. Find the salary of C if A is earning $3600.

Answer:

A: C = 12: 20 = 3: 5

A/C = 3/5

3600/C = 3/5;

C = 6000
